Here at Freddie Fox and Co supporting other small shops is very important, each month a fellow small shop will be featured on the blog, find out the inspiration behind it all and how they started, meet the face behind the business and get exclusive behind the scenes and what they get up to.
This months small shop feature is the wonderful Janie from Shoreditch Shorties London so grab a cuppa, stick your feet up and settle in for a good read.
Hi all, I would just like to give a massive thanks to all those who have supported us so far and a shout out to our brand reps who we couldn't do this without! I am Janie, a single mum of three from Kent (but always in London) and have always been passionate about street art and involved in the scene in one way or another for many years, I love to take street art photos and I am lucky enough to call many artists my friends too. I also love to go on paste up missions with my friends ( in legal spots of course ;) and have dabbled with a bit of street art myself) My personal favourite is sociopolitical art, I believe the streets are a platform in which we the people can get our voices heard.
I met Clare online when I bought an all in one snood top for my baby boy, I fell in love with how bold and unique her products were and have followed Freddie Fox and Co ever since.
I am proud to be a part of the SSOSVA (Secret Society of Super Villain Artists) founded in 1921 by Silent Bill, they are a group of artists who do a whole load for charity and charitable causes, love to party and the rest remains a secret :) www.ssosva.com
This business is very much a family thing and my daughter who is 15 often helps with the graphic design side of things, editing art and photos ready to be printed. My youngest tries to be helpful by trying to eat my phone :)
I started this business because I fell in love with insta-clothes when my youngest was born and we started his instablog about his special needs and down syndrome. I noticed a gap in the market for authentic graffiti and street art clothing which wasn't just generic graffiti style, which I like too but I wanted to try and do something which the artists could personally get involved with.
We do not have a main theme on our page or website really as the art is all so different, but being quite eclectic, I like to see different things all the time and hopefully offer that to our customers too.
So behind the scenes it is just myself who negotiates with the artists, admin, customers and arranges the artwork ready to be put on clothing. It is a case of juggling everyday but I wouldn't have it any other way.
Currently we are making a tiny profit which goes back into the business, but we do it for the love of it rather than anything else. In the future, we hope to be able to buy in bulk and be able to offer our customers cheaper prices, but we hope that at present it reflects our unique products that you can only buy from us.
I always try to source small companies for screen printing etc and love to collab with other small businesses, if you fancy getting involved, drop us a message!
We are a grassroots community movement sharing profits directly with the streetart and graffiti artists involved to support their passion and talent. Offering both Adults & kidswear designs straight from the streets, we hope to inspire the next generation to channel their energies - put down their phones and pick up some paint. Many children choose their own clothing and get to find out more about the artists behind their designs too.
We use organic cotton where we can and always use ethical production methods supporting smaller businesses. We cater for babies to 102, so come check us we will have something for you!
This Brand is for independent minds who follow cutting edge trends where many of the designs push boundaries and express stances on social and political issues, encouraging you to 'Be fierce, be Urban'
We sell our adult range on insta over at @fatcap.apparel1. One day I hope that I can open my own shop in London so people can try on the clothes in person, watch this space :)
